It’s that time of year again. Thanksgiving can be a happy time filled with friends, family and food. But given that the holiday is often centered around turkey it poses some serious struggles for those of us who lead cruelty-free vegan lifestyles.

Millions of turkeys are slaughtered each year for Thanksgiving. This act of cruelty seems to go against the sentiments of the day and go against our vegan principles. Beyond turkey, many family get togethers are filled with non-vegan food and questions from relatives (no, I can’t just “have a bite” of that dairy-filled green bean casserole).

So, with all the ups and downs of Thanksgiving, we wanted to take a moment to appreciate and laugh at some memes that just get what it is like to be a vegan at Thanksgiving.

Vegan Memes for Thanksgiving

The Dawson Crying meme. Text across the top reads "Arrives at a Thanksgiving dinner party with friends..." Text below reads "Finds ZERO vegan recipes out of dozens of dishes..."

Be a friend and bring a vegan-friendly dish! Please, we’re tired of having to eat a pre-or post- dinner party meal.

We all know the feeling of anger when we come back for seconds (or thirds), and some non-vegan family member has gotten to the last bit.

 Fair play, turkey friends…fair play.

You know Snoopy and Woodstock love some vegan goodies! They can definitely come to the Thanksgiving feast!

We love a compassionate holiday. Our celebrations should be cruelty-free!

I think the turkey wouldn’t ask why we’re still vegan every time they see us. We’re looking at you, Grandpa.

Grandma means well, but we all know we can’t trust the stuffing. Definitely not vegan…

The loneliest of feelings. We all stand in solidarity.

As vegans, we know we need to be prepared. It’s either that or starving until we get home.

Thankful for Being Vegan

We know that being vegan is an amazing thing for us, the animals and the planet we call home. So, let’s be thankful for veganism this season and keep our vegan ideals with us in everything we do!
