Simply The Best Vegan Leather Bags and Accessories. Our Materials Make The Difference
We don't use cork, Cactus Leather (Desserto), Apple Leather or other such materials because we're against vegan washing and green washing. With cork, only a very thin layer at the top of the material is cork! The rest is cotton, polyester or some other backing. The same is the case for apple leather and cactus leather. Over 90% an arguably 95%+ of the material is not cork or cactus or apple. In this case, should you call these materials cork, cactus, or apple when there's only a sprinkling of it in the mix? We say no. It's misleading and false advertising. We appreciate materials like Pinatex since the material is pineapple leaf fibers front to back. We appreciate kraft paper since it is made from cellulose of sustainably harvested trees. Kraft paper is paper from front to back! Neither of these materials uses a backing.
I spent 16 years working for the City of Los Angeles and did really neat things there. I loved what I did until around 2012 when I was promised a promotion and then black listed when I pushed for it. I realized the world wasn't always fair. I approached my management, union and even wrote a letter to the Mayor to no avail.
You don't really know it until you enter a new space what it looks like. We're not backed by investors, we're not connected to anyone in the media, and we have no connections to larger retailers. Being seen on social media is purely about having money to advertise.
While we were in several small shops before the pandemic, unfortunately, none of them survived. There are still some vegan retailers left but a few of them will not pick up our line. We're not sure why but we think it has to do with our line being made in China.
We're still here because we've been to vegan festivals, we've been to animal rights conferences, and we've worked on our products. Over the years, our belts have been through multiple transformations to make them better. We expect to keep pushing forward.
