Doshi Men’s Belt Sizing Guide – Accurate Sizing Made Simple

At Doshi, to try and make belt sizing as simple as possible, we try to match our belt sizes to common pant sizes. That means if you wear a size 34 pants, you’ll most likely need a Doshi size 34 belt. However, it's best to measure a belt that you currently own and select the correct size using the table below. Following the table, there's a very high chance you'll get the right size.

Use the charts below to find your size with confidence.
If you don't have a measuring tape, you can download and print our our printable measuring tape here.

We encourage you to measure your waist because most pants manufacturers use "vanity sizing." This means the labeled sizes often don't match the actual measurements, as the waistbands are typically a bit larger than advertised.

Measuring your current belt or waist (where you wear your pants) is the most accurate way to ensure you choose the right belt size!

How to Measure Your Belt Size (The Doshi Way)

Forget the old “add 2 inches” rule. At Doshi, we recommend one of these two methods for accuracy:

  • Method 1: Measure Your Waist – Wrap a tape measure around your waist where you normally wear your belt. Match the measurement to our chart.
  • Method 2: Measure a Belt You Own – Lay a current belt flat and measure from the buckle (where the prong meets the frame) to the hole you use most often. That number is your true belt size.

For example, if you wear pants labeled size 34, you’ll likely need a Doshi belt size 32—not a 36 as other brands might suggest.

Why Doshi Belt Sizing Is Different

Traditional brands: Assume pant sizes are accurate, so they tell you to add 2″.
Reality: Pant sizes are often bigger than the label (vanity sizing).
Doshi belts: Designed for real measurements—our belts fit closer to your true waist for comfort, clean proportion, and less strap waste.

Belt Size vs Pant Size

Here’s the difference in simple terms:

  • Traditional Rule: Pant 34 → Belt 36
  • Doshi Sizing: Pant 34 → Doshi Belt 32

This is why measuring is always best. Our belts are made to fit accurately in the middle holes so you have room to adjust.

How a Belt Should Fit

A properly sized belt should fasten at or near the middle hole. That leaves a balanced length of strap—about 2–3 inches—after the buckle, so it fits neatly into the belt loops without hanging too long or falling short.

FAQs: Belt Sizing Questions People Ask

Should my belt size be bigger than my pants?

With most brands, yes—they tell you “pant size +2.” At Doshi, our belts are sized more accurately. For example, pant 34 usually equals a Doshi 32 belt. Check our charts for best results.

What size belt should I buy for a 34 waist?

At Doshi, a 34 pant size usually requires a 32 belt. Traditional belts may recommend 36, but that leads to extra strap length and poor fit.

How do I measure belt length correctly?

Lay your belt flat and measure from the buckle (where the prong meets the frame) to the hole you use most often. That measurement is your belt size.

What if I’m between sizes?

Choose the larger size. Many of our belts allow trimming, and ratchet belts adjust in ¼″ increments for a near-custom fit.

How long should the belt tail be?

Ideally, 2–3 inches past the buckle, enough to tuck into the first loop without dangling. Our charts help you get this proportion right.

Do belts stretch over time?

Cheap PU belts often stretch or crack. Doshi belts are made from premium microfiber vegan leather, which resists stretching and lasts much longer than traditional PU. In addition, most our belts are thicker than other vegan brands and leather counterparts in stores which makes it harder for the belt to stretch. The belt will eventually conform to your particular shape (and that's a good thing).

Does it matter where I wear my belt (jeans vs dress pants)?

Yes. Belts for jeans or casual pants usually run a little wider, while dress belts are narrower for a sleek, professional look. Sizing remains consistent, but the style may vary.
